-Broadly speaking, my research is devoted to the understanding and building of reliable institutions to foster good economic governance. Im concerned with how institutions are designed to overcome market failures that exclude the poor. My research intends to provide alternative and innovative solutions to social problems that conventional market arrangements cannot tackle due to externalities and market failures. In this regardpart of my published contributions addresses the issue of how to improve the governance rules of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in order to achieve a more fair allocation of funds and to improve deliberation within its decision-making body. More lately, my research is exploring the so called non-loss, non-dividend social business,” with microfinance as an example+\\ <alejandro.agafonow@essca.fr>

+Since “social benefit” is a too fuzzy a concept to serve as an effective measure of social enterprises’ managerial performance, my research seeks to articulate a solution that aims to provide a feasible operational yardstick of success. In my view, the solution lies in the cost structure of social enterprises. It is worth mentioning in passing that I’m trying to justify social enterprises’ operation in relation to the ideal of “social maximization of benefit,” which promises an end to the practice of pricing goods according to lower than socially optimum standards, an idea that nowadays is missing from mainstream economics
